Wearable Floral Art Contest
Have a little fun with some friendly competition in our wearable flowers contest! The day of the show, please wear a design of your choosing and creation. It can be a headpiece, corsage, flower beard, sash, necklace – anything! Use your imagination! You’ll get to showcase your designs at the show before your peers and colleagues cast their vote for show favorite. The People’s Choice Winner will be announced at the conclusion of the show!

Just a few rules:
– Your design must be wearable…that means designs that must be carried, dragged, or pulled in a wagon will not be qualified to enter. (Unless you find a way to wear the wagon.)
– Designs must be pre-made and worn to the event. You will not have time to create them at the show.
– You must be present and accounted for and wearing your design at the Modern Romance Wedding Design Showcase to enter and/or win.

Then, Corey will be back again on Monday, February 29th to teach two hands-on design classes:

Master’s Class: Structure – Table to Bouquet (Cost: $150, Time: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
Focusing on event tablescapes and bridal bouquets at an advanced level, Corey will demonstrate how to bring a master’s level of artistry to special event design work.

Intermediate Class: Inspired Event Design (Cost: $100, Time: 1:30-4:30 PM)
A round-robin class format will engage designers in creating unique looks for three different mock events, rotating teams to work on each for collaborative creativity.

Color Story Design Show

Header Image

Join us on Tuesday, January 26th from 5:00-8:00 PM for a design show dedicated to the exploration, innovation, and passion of color!

The Koehler & Dramm team and some of your esteemed industry colleagues will introduce three of Pantone’s key color stories for the 2016-2017 season and show you how to use them in Sympathy, Celebration, and Commercial designs. But the designers will also face a challenge: they must also incorporate the newly announced Colors of the Year for 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue. Join us for a show that will surprise you with unexpected color combinations and challenge the way you design with color!

In addition to the design sessions, we’ll have two other educational opportunities available:

Don’t let Prom sneak up on you this year! Get inspired with an informational video presentation on Prom sales and marketing tips from the one and only Fitz Design!

Valentine’s Worries: With one of the biggest floral holidays falling on a Sunday, what’s a shop to do? It’s tough to compete out there! Participate in a round-table discussion with other florists to figure out how to overcome your weekend woes.

The K&D 2016 Designer of the Year Competition will also be happening! The six finalists of the Professional category and the winners of the Student category will be announced at the end of the evening.

Want in on the action? Entry is open now, and free when you buy your ticket to the Color Story design show! Official rules are available for pickup in-store or download online here! The Professional finalists will go on to compete live at the Minneapolis Home & Garden Show on Saturday, February 27th. Over $1,000 in prizes will be awarded to the winners!

Don’t wait, get your tickets now! Order them online below, or call Jeannie at 612-362-3131.

2016 Designer of the Year Competition

Calling all designers! It is time yet again to show us what you’re made of. Get ready to compete for the title of 2016 Floral Designer of the Year!

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 26th, when the student level competition and the preliminary round of the professional level competition will take place at Koehler & Dramm in conjunction with our spring trends show (more show information is coming soon). Official rules brochures are available for download below, or in-store.

Professional Theme: Emotions
It’s no secret that flowers have the power to evoke emotion; it’s one of the best things about them! But what if flowers were supposed to express an emotion or embody a feeling on their own? What would a “vengeful” floral design look like? What about “blissful,” “nervous,” “triumphant,” or “grateful…” For the 2016 Professional competition, we ask that you express an emotion through your design. You may choose whichever emotion you like and create a design that you feel embodies your chosen emotion. Show us how we can not only use flowers to evoke emotion in others, but also exhibit an emotion in themselves!

Click here to download the official Professional rules brochure.

Student Theme: The Five Senses
Our five senses—sight, touch, smell, hearing, and taste—work together to help us understand and interpret the world around us. But what if roles were reversed and we were asked to interpret our senses? And what if we were asked to interpret them through floral design? For this year’s Student competition, we ask that you choose one of the five senses and show us what it might look like if it were embodied by flowers. You may choose one of the five senses itself, or you may choose a specific classification of one of the five senses; for example, the taste of coffee, the feel of cotton, or the sound of rain. Show us how floral design can be a complete sensory experience!
