African Violets are a herbaceous flowering plant available in many shades of purple, pink and bicolors. The 6" Violets come with three different colors planted together. They have fleshy, pubescent foliage which is susceptible to rot if too humid or moist. For the best care water from the bottom of the plant (to keep water off the leaves and out of the crown of the plant) and keep in indirect light so the leaves don't burn. Many people have a hobby of collecting all colors of violets. If you are a collector beware of thrips. Violets are very susceptible to thrips and most times go unnoticed until they are out of control and taking over all the plants around them.
There are many varieties of Calathia offering all different leaf shapes, sizes, colors, and leaf patterns! To care for your Calathia make sure you have it in a spot with medium to bright indirect light. Water every 1-2 weeks as needed. A good way to tell if you need to water is to check 2" below the soil line. If it is dry to the touch you need to water. Calathia prefer higher humidity. If the location of your Calathia is in low humidity place a tray with rocks/pebbles under your plant and fill with water to keep humidity around the plant.
China Doll plants grow in a bush like structure with delicate looking leaves. They are a very picky plant. They need 5-6 hours of bright indirect light every day. China Dolls need a well draining soil that is kept moist. If the soil is too dry the leaves will dry up quickly but if the soil is too wet your plant will get root rot. They need temperatures between 65 and 75 degrees and they will not tolerate drafts. Don't worry about transplanting your China Doll regularly as they like to be slightly root bound.
